cobblestone pullover

Someone on Ravelry accused me of having a crush on Jared (brooklyntweed) and the junior high girl in me sputtered a quick denial.  Well... I have to admit, that maybe I do just a wee bit.  Have you seen his photos?  Have you seen his projects?  Who wouldn't develop a bit of an infatuation?  He's brilliant at interpreting Elizabeth Zimmermann's recipes and now he's got a sweater pattern of his own published:

Cobblestone

This is the Cobblestone Pullover by Jared Flood found in the Fall 2007 issue of Interweave Knits that I finished for my hubby for Project Spectrum, Manly Gift Along KAL, and Interweave KAL:

Cobble3_2

Julia of Fricknits (who's also working on the cobblestone pullover in a gorgeous grey tweed) brought up an issue that irks me too.  Interweave Knits is fantastic and I like their previews but I really wish they would include the sizes along with the yarn amounts in the preview.

Cobble2_3

The pattern uses Classic Elite's Skye Tweed and I ordered enough  yarn from Webs in 2 different colorways for 2 different sweaters.  I ended up ordering enough for the largest size - but really only needed enough for the medium 43 1/2" size.  Now I have too much yarn (as if!)  Anyways, I was too impatient to wait for the tweed to arrive so I dove into my stash and found some Cascade 220 in a heathered brown color (not as good as tweed but I still like it - 220 is a workhorse):

Cobble4_3

This pattern was awesome to knit.  Really, truly awesome.  Absolutely no frustration or errata to be had (at least I didn't find any while knitting it.)  Just miles of soothing stockinette on US #8 needles broken only slightly by garter stitch detailing:

Cobble1_3

Thank you Mr. b r o o k l y n t w e e d for such a fabulous design!  I love it, Matt loves it and we can't wait for the weather to get colder so he can enjoy it:

Cobble

I loved knitting it so much for my hubby, I've started another Cobblestone Pullover with the Skye Tweed that finally arrived:

Tweed

Admit it, y'all have a crush on Jared too.

Just so you all know my biggest crush is on my husband.  Matt wrangled the kids, shampooed the carpets, cleaned the house and got it ready for my book club.  It was my turn to host and we read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, (how apropos!) by Betty Smith,  and it was wonderful.  Matt did all this because he wanted me to knit.  Thanks so much sweetie!  I'd gladly knit you anything!

Um, seriously, who doesn't have a bit of a crush on Jared? I'm even afraid to comment on his blog!

Your sweater is beautiful, and Matt makes quite the model. I think Cascade 220 really doesn't get the credit it deserves either.

Oohhh--that sweater is great...now you have me thinking of making it for my hubbie...I haven't found many guys sweaters that he would like but this one may be one he'd fall for! Great job--it looks fantastic!

WOW! That was quick!! Didn't that issue just come out!?!
The sweater is gorgeous. I've been admiring it in the magazine, and now seeing yours, I know I have to make one for DH.

OMG! OMG!! OMG!!!

I think a lot of knitters do...have a crush that is.

That looks great!! You sure knit that up pretty fast. What a great husband to help with all that stuff!

I think I have a crush on your husband! What a guy! The sweater looks great on him. It must be nice to have a guy to knit for - my boy hates sweaters, hats, etc. and I refuse to knit him socks because his feet are WAY big.

That looks great. I might have to make one of those for that husband o' mine. He thinks that just because we got married he should get sweaters. Imagine!

The sweater looks amazing, and it fits him perfectly! I really should make one for my husband, but I think it would take me forever! How do you knit so fast?

tiennie, the sweater looks fabulous! it looks good on matt, too. :)

The sweater is amazing. You are one fast knitter. So who doesn't love Brooklyntweed? His designs are elegant in their simplicity and construction. One heckuva knitter.
Excellent book, btw.

Aw, man. Your sweater, and your husband look great! Your pictures confirm my suspicion that this is the sweater I must make for my husband. But wait, he doesn't wear sweaters. Oh well! I'll make it anyway.

And yes, I have a major knitter/photographer crush on b r o o k l y n t w e e d.

the knitting is great, the fit is great, the color is great, but what really got me was matt. he *shampooed* the carpets?!? i think i may have a teeny little crush on matt myself! ;)

Wow. I haven't even picked up the issue from our vacation mail hold yet, and you've completed a project! Nice (quick) work. It looks beautiful.

lol I think m r t w e e d has a fan club. You are one fast knitter. I cast on for one for the boy as well, I am no where near done but its nice to see one done ;)

That sweater looks awesome! Matt looks like he likes it, too!

You know, I saw this in the magazine and thought "Ehhh...not sure about that one". But now that I've seen it on your Matt, it really does look wonderful! I bet I could get my DH to wear that. I'm astonished at how quickly you knit it up, even with Matt picking up on the chores! Another beautiful FO.

That is GREAT!!! LOVE it! My dh doesn't want socks, but a sweater is something he would wear. And what a great pattern for a sweater that could possibly be my FIRST adult sized sweater!

And your hubby looks like he is modeling in GQ or something. hee hee

I thought we all had a crush on Jared. :)

I'm knitting that one for hubby too. I love the EZ techniques used & the simplicity of the project.

That is just stunning! Gorgeous. And wow, look how quick you knit it up too :) Lucky husband, but it sounds like you're pretty lucky too....that's the best isn't it?!

gorgeous sweater for a great guy. but wait, you finished a sweater that is not even out yet in publication?

FREAKING FANTASTIC!!!!!!!! OMG!!! I'm planning on doing this for my husband!!! WONDERFUL! Oh, and I Love brooklyn tweed too! LOL

Wow - you have done it again! A sweater in such a short time & I have not even receive my copy of IK! Great job & Matt Looks great in it!

the sweater is gorgeous! also, i have as big a crush on brooklyntweed as a gay girl can have. he just seems to trigger my fascination with boy knitters and he IS rather adorable.

ohhhh I love this pattern, simple yet looks soooo dang good on!
Your hubby looks great in it!! Hummm I may have to see if mr. picky Moose would wear this one.

Wow! Beautiful all around!! How long did it take for you to do? I flagged that page as soon as I got the issue in order to make it for my husband as well.

How could anyone NOT have a crush on Jared? Just a teeny one at least? He makes such gorgeous manly knits! I can't wait to try one for my husband. I've got yarn stashed already. :) After all... I have to keep the payer of the yarn happy!

The sweater looks great! I actually mentally flagged this to make for hubby. I think he'd really like it. I keep forgetting to show it to him to see what he thinks.
Who doesn't crush on Jared!!! :~)

Fabulous sweater! It turned out so good and fits your hubby well! It sounds like it was a pleasure to knit as well!

Who doesn't have a crush on the t w e e d?

The sweater came out beautifully--I'm thinking about making one for myself, though I've got one or two things on the needles that need work first!

Wait a minute. That magazine just came out! You are so quick. But I'm sure having such a helpful, kiddo-wrangling, house cleaning husband helps a whole lot, too. Lucky girl! The sweater turned out wonderfully. So manly and classic. I'm glad he likes it! Is Cobblestone #2 for Matt as well?

Wow - you're fast! I freely admit, I have an enormous crush on Jared as well - though your hubby is awfully handsome as well. Then again, so is mine, and he's my biggest crush in the whole world! I would knit that exact sweater for him if he ever wore sweaters....

Oh my - what a gorgeous sweater. Notice I am playing it cool about the model! ;-)
The brown is a great choice for him.

Thanks for the links to BrooklynTweed. I am in awe of such artistry. And now I have another blog to read.

I haven't read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn since I was a young teen. I enjoyed it, but other than that the details evade me. I know it is one of my cousin's favourite books.

I hope you had a great book club meeting - knitting such beautiful things seems more than a good trade for some housework. I like your barter system!

Crushing so hard right now. Your sweater looks AMAZING. When I saw the pics, at first I thought they were the ones from Interweave. Your hubbie just looks so dapper.

You are a knitting machine Tienne! How long ago did the Fall IK come out? I picked up a copy for myself while in Seattle, but I think I'll wait a bit and find some Skye Tweed for this one, since it looks so dynamite w/ that yarn. I have a bunch of Cascade, but I really should cast on for the Seamless Hybrid I planned ;)

And does that mean that Matt gets the second Cobblestone too? What a lucky guy!

I think everyone has a bit of a crush on him. I drool over his photography in particular. Also, great sweater! I might have to make one for Mr F. :)

Crickey I haven't got my subscription for Fall yet and you have knit something from it!!!

Never mind Jared, that is one georgeous model there, my crush is placed elsewhere ;) :)

I love the feel of Cascade and the color you chose is very manly, I think I have that or a similar one to do the Irish Hiking Scarf in sometime. :)

What a guy you have! I'm not complaining about mine, but he hasn't ever shampooed the carpets for me. Loved that book also. I'd read it again. So, do you think the Cobblestone would look good on a woman? My hubby hates sweaters and pretty much anything woolly. He won't even wear warm socks. What to do, what to do. Must knit that sweater after seeing yours!

Wow, I just picked up a copy of the magazine yesterday, haven't even read it, and you've already completed a pattern!!!!!! Looks awesome!!! :)

You are crazy fast with your knitting. I have barely gone through my IK!

!!!

wow you are a FAST knitter! It looks great!

Who doesn't have a crush on Jared! the photos! the projects! ;)

I love that sweater enough to make one for me. Tienne, now you have to be honest............do you stay awake knitting all night? How in the name of Jiminy Cricket do you get these things knit up so fast? I just got my knit magazine last week?

I too love me the Tweed! I must knit that sweater! Maybe I could even get Hubby to wear it!

You so rock!

That sweater looks wonderful, and you hubby's a good model. I love that sweater, but I'm going to knit one for me!

Jared is very crushworthy, and I have to say looking at your photos, so is your husband. He wears that very well! ;)
Lucky you. (And lucky him!)

WHOA, girl! Well, I knew you were going to finish ahead of me, so it's silly to act surprised. Looks awesome!

It looks like it jumped straight off of Brooklyntweed's website!!

In fact the pics are almost identical!!! :oD

Wonderful job!! Nice to know you knittd it with ease.

Who is the 2nd sweaer for?? Your hubb too?

That looks fabulous! I thought about making that one. I don't know how you do it so fast, but I wish I had some of that right now for the socks I am making.

Good job, and I'm in awe of your speed. I haven't even got my issue yet - LOL! I hadn't realized it was a yoke sweater. I like the fact there aren't any shoulder seams - no sewing!

tienne it looks great!
I too ordered the yarn from webs to make my boys each one.......i don't think it will be too difficult to modify the size to fit a 11 and a 7 year old.........

yeah, jared is pretty darn cool! :)
