It's a sickness really. It starts out simple - "Hmm.. the girls have new hats, maybe the boys should have some too." Then it progresses - "Hmm... I think that their friends that they ski and snowboard with will want some too." Then it escalates: "Maybe the parents would like one too?" Pretty soon it's out of control - "Just one more, I can knit just one more!":
But they're so easy and Cascade 220 has so many colors! Oohh... pretty yarn... pretty pretty yarn... They really don't take that long to knit. I can handle it:
Yes, I know I have a problem. I'm here to admit it. I'm Tiennie and I'm a Multiple Knitter. Second Sock Syndrome? Bah! Never!
In case you're wondering, these are Half-Pipe Hats by Debbie Stoller found in Son of Stitch 'n Bitch: 45 Projects to Knit and Crochet for Men. (Ravelry link here). They were all knitted with US #8 needles using various shades of Cascade 220 (except for one knitted with Classic Elite Princess - 'cause you know there has to be an ugly stepchild in there somewhere.) I did make one change - I use a CO of 96 stitches vs. the original 80 stitches.
Here's the modeled shots (which was quite hectic with rambunctious boys and lots of hats.)
Black:
Dark Grey (The one knitted with Classic Elite Princess):
Charcoal:
Light Grey:
Westpoint Blue:
Denim:
Navy:
Lichen:
Straw:
Walnut:
Brown:
Maroon (My first entry for Project Spectrum 3):
Cheaper by the Dozen? Maybe?:
That's it though. I'm declaring an end to all the multiple knitting. There won't be anymore - unless, that is, I knit a pair of socks. Then maybe, just maybe, I'll knit the mate.

Those are so cool! You just never cease to amaze me!

Just in case, any shade of green would be fine... :)
Posted by: Alex | February 15, 2008 at 01:52 AM
Brown, too.
Posted by: Alex | February 15, 2008 at 01:54 AM
I think you should join a group or something because this is getting a bit out of hand... How many awesome projects can one person knit and then knit over and over again? Really? :)
Beautiful hats and photos!

Wow. Nice hats!
I can totally relate to the multiple knitting fascination - I NEVER suffer from SSS and I think there's something irresistible in knitting the same thing in many colours - over and over again. Think Andy Warhol paintings!

Lovely pictures! Phew, glad that's an end to multiple knitting, you were in grave danger of turning into a one woman hat knitting machine!!!

Wow. You've really outdone yourself!!! You know, I've been thinking about it and I think this is evidence of why you have a bunch of kids! You have so much energy and get so much done in one day that you need LOTS to do. I will continue to strive to be just like you. ;-)

Hahaha! You do make me laugh! I bet the neighbor kids love that you have a multiple problem!

You are crazy in the absolute very best kind of way! I mean, who can resist the wall of Cascade 220 colors, but you really make the most of it. That must have been a wild photo shoot. All of the boys look very happy in the hats! Great job.

A. Maze. Ing. I thought you had outdone yourself on those Evangeline mitts, but this is IT!!!!!
You're just amazing. That's it.

Wowza! How fast did you do that!!??!! I think Cascade should be paying you for showing off their color palate so beautifully.

Oh, you're too funny! Yes, I think you DO have a sickness! LOL *I* would be SICK of the pattern to do that many.

Can I ask - where on earth do you find the time??? I'd like to know!! I wish I had that much time to knit in my daily routine! :)
Lovely photos and great finished objects - as always!

Sure, Tiennie. I'll be waiting for your next post when you have 14 matching sweaters :)
They are cute hats! I'm sure the boys love them.
Posted by: Kristy | February 15, 2008 at 06:53 AM
Hahhahaha! Ok if there was any doubt about you being the Queen of Multiple Knitting, that just squashed it. It's like you start knitting and they divide and multiply like little cells. :-)
Posted by: Annie | February 15, 2008 at 07:12 AM
Great hats! You are so funny with your multiples. Is there a Cascade 220 color you haven't knit with? :) As always fun to see!
Posted by: Elizabeth | February 15, 2008 at 07:18 AM
You truly are amazing. With your kids, family stuff, life... I do not know where you find the time! You've already probably knit more than I will this entire year.
These hats are adorable. My eight year old son would love this. I'll have to find this book and make one.
Thanks for all of your inspiration!

Holy Wow, Tiennie. I'd say that's craziness, but look a how cute the results are... can't argue with that. I love how the one kid has the same expression on his face in every single hat he modeled. So cute.
Posted by: Stella | February 15, 2008 at 08:18 AM
holy wow!!! the boys' new hats are amazing. you are amazing. it is insane, but we love it. you can take a break now. ;)
Posted by: lynette | February 15, 2008 at 08:24 AM
As usual, the hats are awesome. You make me feel like such a slacker! I don't even have kids and I work at home and I can only finish one project a week.
Posted by: monica | February 15, 2008 at 08:35 AM
Man I wish I had your sickness! I know that I would have alot more finished pairs of socks in my drawer. The hats look great, I hope that the boys, friends and parents love them!
Posted by: Heather | February 15, 2008 at 08:54 AM
Wow that's some fast knitting! I love seeing the same project in all different colors. So much fun!
Posted by: Sourire11 | February 15, 2008 at 08:56 AM
Wow! Awesome. Where do you find the time? After knitting multipes do you feel like you don't ever want to knit another again? I love your enthusiasm. :)
Posted by: Carolyn | February 15, 2008 at 09:03 AM
Fabulous!! But, when you say that's it, I don't believe you! hehehe! Good luck with trying not to make a multiple of a fabulous pattern!
Posted by: carrieknits | February 15, 2008 at 09:13 AM
At least you admit your problem :). Most people don't and that's big of you. Socks are out of contest, but otherwise, we'll see how strong you are.
