seraphim
It seems like every time I unexpectedly disappear for longer than anticipated, I pop back in with only 1 big project:
This is the Seraphim Shawl (Ravelry and Non-Ravelry link) by Miriam Felton. This came out much smaller than the original because I knit this on US #3 needles vs. the US #5 needles suggested by the pattern. I just like the fabric created by the smaller needles more. I think this ended up being about 60" x 30".
This was knit with Sundara Yarn Silk Lace in Green Tea which I was lucky enough to receive from the generous and amazing dyer herself, Sundara. I absolutely love her yarn (as you can tell from my latest projects.) Thank you so much Sundara!!!
Honestly, I do not get paid to use her yarn. It just seems like lately, all the colors I have from Sundara Yarn fit into Project Spectrum colors. This is my latest addition to Project Spectrum Earth:
I think I can become a lace knitter after knitting Seraphim and Icarus. Now if only I could become a lace wearer!
There have been quite a few bloggers who have wondered where all the WIP posts have gone and why there have only been FO posts in blogland. While I really enjoy reading everyone's WIP posts, I am guilty about only posting about FOs. The time it takes for me to shoot photos, choose which pictures I'll use, write a post, edit the post, upload the photos to flickr and update my Ravelry page, is hours and hours and frankly I'm too lazy and tired to do this with my WIPs. I hope you'll all forgive me for not doing many, if at all any, WIP posts! Thank you for always stopping by anyways with such nice comments.
This was our first sunny day in sooooo looooong. Yay for me to be fortunate enough to be able to go outside to snap these pictures. We are suppose to be having a record heat wave the next few days! I hope you're enjoying your Spring!

wow, the shawl is beautiful, and i aboslutely love the color!
ps - i am also guilty of having no WIP blog posts!

Oh, my gosh, that's beautiful. I love the combination of yarn and pattern!

The shawl looks absolutely gorgeous. I love the color too, my favourite. It looks so delicate and airy, and I am sure you would be able to wear lace as well. Perhaps you could knit a lacy top for one of your daughters.

Wow - that is GORGEOUS!!! Beautiful work and I love the color!

Beautiful shawl! Fabulous FO post!
I will have to visit frequently the next few days...heat wave expected here, too (Portland area)...the dappled light and greenery look oh so very cooling!

Beautiful! I've yet to use Sundara's yarn, but it's starting to look mighty tempting.

I love the FO posts. You do a beautiful job with the photography and it's always interesting. I love that pattern, and you did a great job with it. I like the look of the size 3s!

It's breathtakingly beautiful!
Posted by: margene | May 15, 2008 at 03:55 PM
It's so...lovely. Love it. As usual, you have done a fantastic job. I understand how you feel about posting WIPs as I am the same - I rather spend the time knitting than sitting in front of the computer.

gorgeous tiennie!! i am almost done with a shawl myself... so hopefully my small silence will be worth it too!!
Beautiful job!! :-)

That shawl is absolutely beautiful and the color sublime.
Posted by: kim | May 15, 2008 at 04:34 PM
What a beautiful shawl in such a yummy color! I do hope you wear it.
Y'know, I think that I don't like to blog about WIPs either because I may not finish them or because I like the surprise of just showing a finished object, tada!
Posted by: Sasha | May 15, 2008 at 04:43 PM
This is a very nice shawl. The color is so cheery and I don't blame you for liking it.
Posted by: Angelika | May 15, 2008 at 04:44 PM
Tiennie...you must do what works best for you :-).
Your shawl is absolutely stunning and is in one of my all time favorite colors!
Posted by: Kim | May 15, 2008 at 04:53 PM
I love it! Very pretty color.
Posted by: Stacee | May 15, 2008 at 04:54 PM
the only reason i've had WIP posts is because i'm blogging every day. normally i'm like you. the shawl is beautiful. nice work.
Posted by: maryse | May 15, 2008 at 05:05 PM
Stunning. The color is just incredible and the pattern is so elegant. Congrats on the fantastic knitting! (And I certainly don't mind missing the WIP posts, I don't tend to do them myself!)
Posted by: Ann | May 15, 2008 at 05:05 PM
It really really lovely. I love the color a lot!
Posted by: bea | May 15, 2008 at 05:06 PM
It's lovely - and Green - yeah! Why aren't you a lace wearer???? That's a travesty! You go put that shawl on and sit and have a glass of wine. With lace I can go either way - either big or small needles. Currently using US 5 for Swallowtail.
Posted by: MrPuffy | May 15, 2008 at 05:13 PM
Love it! That green is beautiful and I can just imagine the yarn to be amazing to work with.
Posted by: mary | May 15, 2008 at 05:16 PM
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm like you....I need to learn to be a lace wearer too. Then I might like to be a lace knitter.
AND...I totally agree about posting WIP. The only time I get to it is when I happen to have something finished.

Good work Tiennie! That is my absolute favorite color nowadays. :)
Posted by: Carolyn | May 15, 2008 at 05:22 PM

WOW, this is so beautiful. and here I am knitting yet another Katie Kitty for Danielle's yet to be baby girl. I better see you wearing this at the baseball field so I can loudly say "WOW YOU MADE THAT! INCREDIBLE."

It's gorgeous. The colour you chose reminds me of emerging spring leaves, which is perfectly evocative of how the lace pattern emerges from the body of the shawl. You won't wear these beauties you've been knitting?
Posted by: Dave | May 15, 2008 at 05:53 PM
Oh, Tiennie, it's really beautiful! Very nice work! :0)

What a beautiful shawl in a great color! I do some WIP pictures, only because I knit so slowly that my blog would fall off the earth if I didn't. It's your blog -- and your finished pictures are always a treat! Thank you.

It's stunning! Post when you want -- we'll be here reading!
Posted by: Kathy | May 15, 2008 at 07:51 PM
It's so pretty! I love knitting lace, but I'm with you. I love knitting it, but I never wear it!
Posted by: yaiAnn | May 15, 2008 at 07:51 PM
A sort of unexpected colorway for that shawl... totally gorgeous!!!
Posted by: grumperina | May 15, 2008 at 08:39 PM
Hey Tiennie, that is beautiful! I LOVE the color and the pattern. Great work! I agree that it takes forever to blog and update Ravelry, and I have gotten lazy too. I'd rather be spending my time reading blogs and looking at Ravelry. Happy heat wave (tomorrow will be 101 degrees here!)
Posted by: Cindy | May 15, 2008 at 09:11 PM
Your shawl looks so beautiful! You should wear it and enjoy it!
Posted by: Debby | May 15, 2008 at 09:38 PM
Simply breathtaking! It looks as light as a feather.
Posted by: Pikku-Kettu | May 15, 2008 at 09:40 PM
I have never really cared for Seraphim until now. And all it took was a smaller needle! I am off to re-look at all my lace shawl patterns. Thanks!

Absolutely gorgeous!! And I'll take a FO post from you anytime!! Your photos are always fabulous!! And don't you have a family to hang out with once in awhile...no WIP is fine with me :)
Posted by: irishgirlieknits | May 15, 2008 at 09:54 PM
This is just stunning! I love the colour. I know what you mean about the wip shots. It's not like you make us wait months between FOs though is it. You certainly can churn out beautiful knits!
Posted by: Amanda | May 15, 2008 at 09:57 PM
Your Icarus shawl looked like an autumn leaf...this green one is a spring leaf. They are beautiful!
Cooking up one with a summer color scheme? Or winter? =)
Also, I love your shot of the shawl over the wood rail.

The color is wonderful and the shawl is amazing. It was pointed out to me just today that the nice thing about knitting lace shawls is that they are so beautiful they can just be hung up on the wall as art!
Posted by: Kath | May 15, 2008 at 11:44 PM
SO! GORGEOUS! hey, at least you're blogging FOs. i haven't blogged anything in ages.
