Even though it's now officially Spring, the weather around here is still stuck in winter so I have a couple of last-minute winter items to present. I wish they were modeled shots but since it's been pouring here, I can't make my daughter model in the rain for me. Indoor shots, using an old faux suede jacket of mine, will have to do! This is the Lamar Scarf by Gale:
This reversible chunky braided scarf was so enjoyable to knit:
I knitted this on US #11 using Plymouth Yarn Baby Alpaca Grande Tweed that I stole from Matt's stash:
This was yarn that he picked out when we were in Boston last summer. It was just sitting there unused, so it was begging to be stolen from him!:
I also picked up yarn in Boston. In fact it's almost the same yarn that Matt picked. I chose this yarn, with my friend Sholeen, specifically to knit this project. Take a look at how beautiful Sholeen's version turned out:
I followed the pattern exactly and only ended up using 1 1/2 skeins of the 3 skeins of yarn that I purchased. I love how chunky Sholeen's turned out so I'm kicking myself for not following her modifications:
I knitted these on US #11 needles using Plymouth Yarn Baby Alpaca Grande. So now I have to figure out what to make with the remaining yarn:
I think I need to do a little more blocking on the braided part so that it'll lay a bit flatter. This yarn is so unbelievable soft though!:

Mmmm, more winter whites! I especially love the Lamar scarf; it looks really cozy.

I love big cuddly cream coloured knits for the cold! Had a giggle at the yarn 'begging to be stolen' though - isn't it all??? :D

Those scarves are gorgeous! But my fave is that braided one. WOW!! I would've never thought to do that with strips. Very creative of Teva.
Got enough yarn leftover for a Capitan hat! HEHE

These are so pretty and classic! I need to make more accessories in muted colours instead of all the crazy variegated stuff I've got.

Your braided scarf is so different and beautiful. I actually prefer it not to be too chunky. Yours is just right. :)

i think i may have to "start" a stash for my own husband. is it bad if he doesn't knit?
Posted by: sheepishone | March 25, 2009 at 01:36 PM
Beautiful!
I love goodreads. I love books almost as much as knitting, so I love browsing the booklists to find more books to read!
Posted by: emily | March 25, 2009 at 02:06 PM
soft scarves are the best. love the detail on both scarves. Yes, the weather isn't cooperating yet.
Keep warm!

LOVE the concept of that interwoven scarf! So original..
Posted by: little_lj | March 25, 2009 at 03:33 PM
Oh my, the braided scarf looks absolutely beautiful. I have never seen that pattern before. I am sure they will both keep you so warm in the cooler months too.
Posted by: sue | March 25, 2009 at 03:34 PM
Both of those scarves are so interesting! I especially love the look of the one from Teva Durham. However, I think the fact that the length is fixed (can't tighten or loosen it) would not bode well for regulating temperature, which I often accomplish with scarves.

Those are both so pretty!! I must be sure to make something in a soft winter white yarn next fall! Just call me copycat.
Posted by: Suzy Girl | March 25, 2009 at 04:16 PM
Both scarfs look great & it looks like white is your current favorite. It's actually a great color & can match with most colors. Great work!
Posted by: Ann | March 25, 2009 at 04:34 PM
I like both of those, but I really like the reverse cable one. A pattern I hadn't seen yet! And what an idea to do those in white. Very nice!
Posted by: Rachel | March 25, 2009 at 05:15 PM
i've been wanting to make that teva's scarf for a very long time. it's nice to see someone actually made one. your's turned out great!

LOVE your Lamar in alpaca- I've meant to do one for me in alpaca for months but never quite got around to it, the drapiness of the fiber is just lovely.

I love the creamy whites in this post. These scarves are really pretty. Does Matt notice when his stash is missing? ;)
Posted by: kim | March 25, 2009 at 08:08 PM
Those are both gorgeous!! Love the cables!! Perfect
Posted by: irishgirlieknits | March 25, 2009 at 10:44 PM
your two scarfs are lovely, and you will be a very cute couple, when you will have a walk together with your matching scarfs.
Have a nice week

How do you find such patterns? They look so fun and different. Very pretty and I like the idea of white. I said the "idea" because with my 4 y.o., they'd end up a different color sooner rather than later if I made anything white.

These are gorgeous knits...how fun to have a husband to steal stash from. Does he steal yours? :) Your knitting is just meticulous. Thanks for all the inspiration you give. (Love your new header!)

pretty!! love those scarves!!
Posted by: margaux | March 26, 2009 at 09:46 AM
Hey, those pretty scarfs match the color of the freaky Seattle morning snow fall yesterday. Maybe your next knit should be a pretty tank to help summon the warm-weather-Spring gods out of hiding. ;)

Pea said come look at these and I am glad I did - I can almost feel them cosying around my neck now - beautiful work

I really like the Lamar scarf -- very cool pattern!
You do know that now that you've "stolen" from Matt's stash, you've opened the door in the other direction; right? :-)
